A Romantic Summer Wedding in Rochester, NY
Lydia and Bobby's August 8th, 2026 wedding brought together a traditional Catholic ceremony, beautiful downtown Rochester portraits, and a reception at the newly relocated and renovated Arbor Loft in Rochester, NY.
Their day began with both Lydia and Bobby getting ready onsite at Arbor Loft before heading to Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church for their wedding ceremony. After officially becoming husband and wife, everyone returned to Arbor Loft for portraits and a reception with 130 of their closest family and friends.
It was also my first opportunity to film a wedding at the new Arbor Loft location, and there was so much about the space that stood out from a wedding videography perspective.
Getting Ready at the New Arbor Loft
One of my favorite things about Arbor Venues has always been the attention they give to the getting ready portion of a wedding day.
The newly relocated Arbor Loft continues that tradition beautifully.
Both Lydia and Bobby were able to get ready onsite, eliminating the need to travel between separate getting ready locations before their ceremony.
For Lydia, the bridal suite was particularly impressive.
It is bright, spacious, and filled with natural light, with multiple areas that can serve as different backdrops throughout the morning.
As a Rochester, NY wedding videographer, this is something I appreciate tremendously.
Getting ready spaces sometimes feel like an afterthought at wedding venues, but they are actually where a significant portion of the wedding story begins. Hair and makeup, putting on the dress, detail shots, gifts, conversations with parents and friends, and those final few moments before leaving for the ceremony all happen there.
Having a sun filled bridal suite with plenty of room and multiple filming locations makes an enormous difference in how those moments look on camera.
Arbor Loft clearly designed this part of the wedding experience intentionally.
A Catholic Wedding at Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church
After getting ready at Arbor Loft, Lydia and Bobby traveled to Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church in Rochester for their Catholic wedding ceremony.
Surrounded by family and friends, they declared their intentions before the Church and exchanged traditional vows.
Bobby promised to remain faithful to Lydia in good times and bad, in sickness and health, and to love and honor her all the days of his life.
Lydia made the same lifelong commitment to Bobby.
Their ceremony focused on marriage as a sacrament and the responsibility of building a life together rooted in love, faithfulness, and commitment.
And with their vows exchanged, they were introduced to everyone gathered at Corpus Christi as Mr. and Mrs. Thompson.
A Love Story That Included a Proposal in Italy
While Lydia and Bobby's wedding took place in Rochester, one important chapter of their story happened thousands of miles away.
During a family trip to Italy, Bobby proposed to Lydia in Sorrento.
According to Lydia's sister, the family spent the trip surrounded by beautiful monuments and history, but watching Bobby propose became one of the most memorable sights of the entire experience.
Bobby was incredibly nervous.
And Lydia apparently cried for about 45 minutes.
By the time their wedding arrived, Bobby had also become a natural part of Lydia's family.
Her sister talked about Bobby receiving guitar lessons from their dad and how happy their mother was to see her oldest daughter so deeply loved.
Their families described two people who support one another and who have naturally become part of each other's lives.
Wedding Portraits at Arbor Loft
Following their church ceremony, Lydia and Bobby returned to Arbor Loft for portraits.
The new location is nestled in Rochester's East End, which gives couples the ability to create several different looks without traveling far from their reception.
We took portraits inside Lydia's bright bridal suite, throughout the reception space, and outside using the surrounding urban Rochester setting.
The wedding party portraits looked especially beautiful against the white draperies inside Arbor Loft.
We were also able to use the bar area for another completely different backdrop.
That variety is one of the strongest features of the newly renovated Arbor Loft wedding venue.
Instead of every photograph or video clip having the same background, couples can move between the soft natural light of the getting ready suite, the white draperies and romantic details of the reception space, the bar, and the more urban surroundings outside.
For wedding videography, variety like this helps a wedding film feel much more dynamic.
The Newly Relocated Arbor Loft in Rochester, NY
The new Arbor Loft is located at 21 Lawrence Street in Rochester's East End, bringing the venue into the heart of downtown Rochester.
Arbor describes the redesigned space as combining European warmth with natural light and romantic details.
Having now filmed there, I understand why those elements are such a large part of how they describe the new venue.
Light is one of the most important tools available to a photographer or videographer, and Arbor Loft provides plenty of it in the areas where it matters most, particularly during getting ready and portraits.
There is also an intentionality to the space.
The suites don't feel like rooms that happened to be available and were turned into bridal spaces afterward.
They feel like they were created with the wedding morning in mind.
That is something Arbor Venues consistently does very well, and it is an important consideration for couples comparing wedding venues in Rochester, NY.
Your venue isn't only where dinner and dancing happen.
It can be where your entire wedding story begins.
A 130 Guest Reception at Arbor Loft
Lydia and Bobby welcomed approximately 130 guests to Arbor Loft for their wedding reception.
That guest count fit comfortably within the venue while still leaving the celebration feeling full and energetic.
Arbor Loft currently accommodates up to 200 guests for a reception only, making Lydia and Bobby's wedding a great example of how the space can work for a moderately large Rochester wedding.
After the formalities of the evening, Stephanie Hyde from Encore Events kept the celebration moving.
One benefit of having a reception in a space with so many visual elements is that the room continues to provide beautiful backgrounds throughout the evening, from entrances and speeches to the first dance and open dancing later in the night.
Family, Movies, Music, and the Little Things
Although Arbor Loft provided the setting, Lydia and Bobby's families helped tell their story.
Lydia's sister described growing up with a sister who shared the things she loved with the people around her.
Movies, television shows, video games, music, dinner, and dessert became ways the sisters stayed connected.
Even after they no longer lived under the same roof, that tradition continued.
Bobby's family talked about the changes they had seen in him since Lydia entered his life.
One story involved a recent family dinner where Bobby was moving around their home making sure everyone's plates and glasses were full.
It was a small observation, but those small things often say the most.
Lydia's dad offered similar advice to the newlyweds.
Help each other.
Share the load.
Remember that a happy marriage is built through the accumulation of small things.
It was fitting advice for two people beginning the next part of their lives together.
Why Arbor Loft Works So Well for Rochester Wedding Videography
For couples considering an Arbor Loft wedding in Rochester, NY, one of the venue's greatest strengths is the number of different parts of a wedding day that can happen within the property.
Both people can get ready onsite.
The suites provide beautiful natural light.
The reception space offers several distinct portrait backgrounds.
The East End location creates opportunities for urban wedding portraits.
And everything leads naturally into the reception without requiring another major location change.
From a videography perspective, that makes a difference.
Less unnecessary travel means more time actually capturing the wedding.
And having multiple visually distinct spaces within one venue creates more variety for the final wedding film.
Of all those features, however, the getting ready spaces stood out to me most.
If you are touring Rochester wedding venues, don't only look at the ballroom.
Ask to see where you will spend your morning.
Look at the windows.
Look at the amount of space available once your wedding party, hair and makeup team, photographer, videographer, dresses, flowers, bags, and everything else arrive.
Those details matter.
