A Romantic Summer Wedding in Rochester, NY Lydia and Bobby's August 8th, 2026 wedding brought together a traditional Catholic ceremony, beautiful downtown Rochester portraits, and a reception at the newly relocated and renovated Arbor Loft in Rochester, NY. Their day began with both Lydia and Bobby getting ready onsite at Arbor Loft before heading to Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church for their wedding ceremony. After officially becoming husband and wife, everyone returned to Arbor Loft for portraits and a reception with 130 of their closest family and friends. It was also my first opportunity to film a wedding at the new Arbor Loft location, and there was so much about the space that stood out from a wedding videography perspective. Getting Ready at the New Arbor Loft One of my favorite things about Arbor Venues has always been the attention they give to the getting ready portion of a wedding day. The newly relocated Arbor Loft continues that tradition beautifully. Both Lydia and Bobby were able to get ready onsite, eliminating the need to travel between separate getting ready locations before their ceremony. For Lydia, the bridal suite was particularly impressive. It is bright, spacious, and filled with natural light, with multiple areas that can serve as different backdrops throughout the morning. As a Rochester, NY wedding videographer, this is something I appreciate tremendously. Getting ready spaces sometimes feel like an afterthought at wedding venues, but they are actually where a significant portion of the wedding story begins. Hair and makeup, putting on the dress, detail shots, gifts, conversations with parents and friends, and those final few moments before leaving for the ceremony all happen there. Having a sun filled bridal suite with plenty of room and multiple filming locations makes an enormous difference in how those moments look on camera. Arbor Loft clearly designed this part of the wedding experience intentionally. A Catholic Wedding at Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church After getting ready at Arbor Loft, Lydia and Bobby traveled to Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church in Rochester for their Catholic wedding ceremony. Surrounded by family and friends, they declared their intentions before the Church and exchanged traditional vows. Bobby promised to remain faithful to Lydia in good times and bad, in sickness and health, and to love and honor her all the days of his life. Lydia made the same lifelong commitment to Bobby. Their ceremony focused on marriage as a sacrament and the responsibility of building a life together rooted in love, faithfulness, and commitment. And with their vows exchanged, they were introduced to everyone gathered at Corpus Christi as Mr. and Mrs. Thompson. A Love Story That Included a Proposal in Italy While Lydia and Bobby's wedding took place in Rochester, one important chapter of their story happened thousands of miles away. During a family trip to Italy, Bobby proposed to Lydia in Sorrento. According to Lydia's sister, the family spent the trip surrounded by beautiful monuments and history, but watching Bobby propose became one of the most memorable sights of the entire experience. Bobby was incredibly nervous. And Lydia apparently cried for about 45 minutes. By the time their wedding arrived, Bobby had also become a natural part of Lydia's family. Her sister talked about Bobby receiving guitar lessons from their dad and how happy their mother was to see her oldest daughter so deeply loved. Their families described two people who support one another and who have naturally become part of each other's lives. Wedding Portraits at Arbor Loft Following their church ceremony, Lydia and Bobby returned to Arbor Loft for portraits. The new location is nestled in Rochester's East End, which gives couples the ability to create several different looks without traveling far from their reception. We took portraits inside Lydia's bright bridal suite, throughout the reception space, and outside using the surrounding urban Rochester setting. The wedding party portraits looked especially beautiful against the white draperies inside Arbor Loft. We were also able to use the bar area for another completely different backdrop. That variety is one of the strongest features of the newly renovated Arbor Loft wedding venue. Instead of every photograph or video clip having the same background, couples can move between the soft natural light of the getting ready suite, the white draperies and romantic details of the reception space, the bar, and the more urban surroundings outside. For wedding videography, variety like this helps a wedding film feel much more dynamic. The Newly Relocated Arbor Loft in Rochester, NY The new Arbor Loft is located at 21 Lawrence Street in Rochester's East End, bringing the venue into the heart of downtown Rochester. Arbor describes the redesigned space as combining European warmth with natural light and romantic details. Having now filmed there, I understand why those elements are such a large part of how they describe the new venue. Light is one of the most important tools available to a photographer or videographer, and Arbor Loft provides plenty of it in the areas where it matters most, particularly during getting ready and portraits. There is also an intentionality to the space. The suites don't feel like rooms that happened to be available and were turned into bridal spaces afterward. They feel like they were created with the wedding morning in mind. That is something Arbor Venues consistently does very well, and it is an important consideration for couples comparing wedding venues in Rochester, NY. Your venue isn't only where dinner and dancing happen. It can be where your entire wedding story begins. A 130 Guest Reception at Arbor Loft Lydia and Bobby welcomed approximately 130 guests to Arbor Loft for their wedding reception. That guest count fit comfortably within the venue while still leaving the celebration feeling full and energetic. Arbor Loft currently accommodates up to 200 guests for a reception only, making Lydia and Bobby's wedding a great example of how the space can work for a moderately large Rochester wedding. After the formalities of the evening, Stephanie Hyde from Encore Events kept the celebration moving. One benefit of having a reception in a space with so many visual elements is that the room continues to provide beautiful backgrounds throughout the evening, from entrances and speeches to the first dance and open dancing later in the night. Family, Movies, Music, and the Little Things Although Arbor Loft provided the setting, Lydia and Bobby's families helped tell their story. Lydia's sister described growing up with a sister who shared the things she loved with the people around her. Movies, television shows, video games, music, dinner, and dessert became ways the sisters stayed connected. Even after they no longer lived under the same roof, that tradition continued. Bobby's family talked about the changes they had seen in him since Lydia entered his life. One story involved a recent family dinner where Bobby was moving around their home making sure everyone's plates and glasses were full. It was a small observation, but those small things often say the most. Lydia's dad offered similar advice to the newlyweds. Help each other. Share the load. Remember that a happy marriage is built through the accumulation of small things. It was fitting advice for two people beginning the next part of their lives together. A Timeless Rochester, NY Wedding Filled With Family, History, and a Really Good Bet Some wedding venues are simply beautiful places to celebrate. Others already mean something long before the wedding day arrives. For Annie, Genesee Valley Club in Rochester, NY was the latter. She had grown up going to the Club with her family. She attended father daughter dances there. Her family had been members for much of her life. Long before there was a wedding dress, a groom named Brandan, or nearly 180 guests waiting to celebrate them, Genesee Valley Club was already woven into Annie's story. So when Annie and Brandan returned there for their wedding reception on August 1st, 2026, they weren't simply choosing a beautiful Rochester wedding venue . They were adding another memory to a place already filled with them. And this one was pretty special. Getting Ready at Annie's Childhood Home Annie began her wedding day at her parents' home surrounded by the people who had known and loved her long before this day arrived. Family is clearly at the center of who Annie is. She grew up in a family of eight, and the speeches later that evening would tell story after story about the siblings who shared bedrooms, fights, laughs, secrets, sports, advice, and every stage of life together. There was also one particularly beautiful detail Annie incorporated into her wedding day. For the traditional "something blue," Annie didn't choose an object. She chose people. Annie asked her cousins, a group consisting mostly of women along with one teenage boy, to all wear blue. Together, they became her something blue. It was such a personal way to take a familiar wedding tradition and make it entirely her own. Instead of carrying something blue with her, Annie surrounded herself with it through people she loved. And that really seemed to fit a wedding day where family was everywhere. No First Look, Just the Aisle Annie and Brandan chose not to have a first look. Instead, Brandan saw Annie for the first time when the doors opened at St. Margaret Mary Church in Rochester and she began walking down the aisle beside her father. There is something incredibly special about preserving that moment when a couple decides to wait. As a Rochester wedding videographer, it means I get to watch two stories unfold simultaneously through the camera: the bride walking toward the person she is about to marry and the groom realizing, in real time, that this is actually happening. There are no second takes. Brandan's first glimpse of Annie happened exactly where they wanted it to happen. At the end of the aisle. A Catholic Wedding Ceremony at St. Margaret Mary Church Annie and Brandan exchanged their vows at St. Margaret Mary Church surrounded by the family and friends who would later fill the Genesee Valley Club. Their Catholic ceremony centered on the commitment they were making to one another. They promised faithfulness in good times and bad, in sickness and health, and to love and honor one another for all the days of their lives. Those are traditional vows, but after listening to their families talk about Annie and Brandan later that evening, one word seemed to give those promises an even deeper meaning. Teammates. Sports have played a huge role in both of their lives. Annie grew up excelling in soccer and lacrosse before becoming a three time captain during her collegiate athletic career. Her dad described her as someone who demonstrated leadership and mental toughness from childhood, including one memorable race when a boy shoved her to the ground immediately after she beat him. Annie got back up. She was hurt, but she wasn't going to let him know it. Years later, she would play through a broken wrist and a torn meniscus while helping change the culture of her college program. Brandan's athletic story centered around basketball. He worked his way from playing in the driveway to competing in college, developing the work ethic, discipline, and commitment his family still sees in him today. So it was fitting that one of the most important themes of their wedding had nothing to do with winning individually. It was about finding the right teammate. The Greatest Bet Brandan Ever Made Brandan loves sports. Brandan also apparently enjoys a sports bet. According to his brother, he will study the odds, analyze the stats, and completely convince himself that he has discovered a sure thing. And then there is the 15 leg parlay that somehow doesn't hit. Thankfully, the most important bet Brandan ever made worked out considerably better. A few years ago, Brandan opened Hinge and took a chance on a first date with Annie. No statistics. No expert predictions. No point spread. Just a feeling that this person might be someone special. His brother joked during his wedding speech that despite Brandan's nearly empty DraftKings account, taking a chance on Annie turned out to be the smartest wager of his life. And Annie made a pretty great bet herself. Brandan was described throughout the evening as loyal, hardworking, caring, calm, and someone who would do anything for the people he loves. Annie was described as the person who makes life feel a little less difficult simply because she is standing beside you. Together, they found the thing everyone hopes to find. A best friend. A partner. And someone who makes the ordinary days better. Wedding Portraits at Genesee Valley Club After their ceremony, Annie and Brandan headed to Genesee Valley Club for portraits and their reception. Their couple and wedding party portraits took place outside on the terrace lawn behind the Club, surrounded by beautifully maintained greenery and florals. The grounds created a timeless backdrop for their wedding portraits, but what immediately stood out to me about Genesee Valley Club was the contrast between the property outside and the architecture waiting inside. The building has history. Genesee Valley Club dates back to 1885 and has been part of Rochester for well over a century. The Club's history and traditional architecture give the property a character that is difficult to recreate in a newer wedding venue. The best way I can describe the interior? Old money, in the best possible way. From the bar to the grand staircases and formal gathering spaces, the Club has a rich, classic atmosphere that feels completely different from many other Rochester, NY wedding venues. As a wedding videographer, that character gives you so much to work with visually. The interior is dark and moody, particularly around the bar and ballroom where there is considerably less natural light. Outside, however, the terrace, lawn, florals, and greenery offer an entirely different aesthetic. That contrast helped give Annie and Brandan's wedding film a wonderful sense of place. Coming Back to a Place Filled With Memories What made this particular Genesee Valley Club wedding reception even more meaningful was Annie's personal connection to the Club. During the reception, Annie talked about how special it felt to celebrate the most important day of her life in a place that had already been the setting for so many meaningful moments. That sentence says so much. She had attended father daughter dances here. She had grown up coming here with her family. Now she was returning in her wedding dress, walking through those same spaces with her husband. There is something incredibly beautiful about that kind of continuity. Genesee Valley Club has its own extensive history in Rochester, dating back to the nineteenth century. But wedding venues aren't meaningful because of dates written in history books. They become meaningful because families add their own history to them. For Annie's family, that history had already begun. August 1st simply added another chapter. A Formal Genesee Valley Club Wedding Reception Nearly 180 guests gathered at Genesee Valley Club to celebrate the newlyweds. The reception had a large, formal feel, with circular tables filling the room and floral centerpieces throughout the space. Live music was provided by Shine, whose setup transformed another portion of the Club into the center of the evening's celebration. And there was an interesting transformation still waiting to happen. At the beginning of the reception, tables occupied the space that would eventually become the dance floor. Once dinner and formalities were complete, those tables were quickly cleared away. Suddenly, the room changed. The dance floor opened. The band took over. And the formal wedding reception became a party. The Speeches That Told Us Who Annie Really Is The speeches were one of my favorite parts of Annie and Brandan's wedding because they didn't simply tell funny stories. They painted an incredibly complete picture of the people standing at the center of the room. One of Annie's sisters said that if she could wish one thing for someone at the beginning of their life, she would "give them an Annie." Because when you have an Annie beside you, life doesn't have to feel quite so hard. Again and again, people described someone who shows up. Someone who listens when another person needs to talk. Someone who can sit quietly when they need to cry. Someone who calls to ask if you've eaten. Someone who says she'll be there in ten minutes and means it. Annie's dad described a daughter who grew from a driven athlete and natural leader into a clinical psychologist with a remarkable ability to make people feel heard, supported, and cared for. Her sisters described their safe place in human form. And then there was Brandan. Annie's family talked about seeing the way he loved her and realizing that he wasn't taking their place in Annie's life. He was adding something new to it. One of the most beautiful observations of the evening was that after Brandan entered Annie's life, her sparkle seemed to shine a little brighter. Private Vows That Were Actually Private One of my favorite moments from Annie and Brandan's wedding will never appear in their public highlight reel. And that was intentional. Annie and Brandan wanted to exchange private vows. Actually private. As their wedding videographer, I still wanted them to have the ability to return to that moment years from now without changing what the moment itself was supposed to be. So I set up audio recorders near them. I placed a camera on a tripod and started recording. And then I left the room. No videographer standing six feet away. No feeling that they needed to perform for a camera. Just Annie and Brandan talking to each other. Their words aren't included here, and they weren't included in the highlight reel out of respect for what they asked of me. But the moment still belongs to them. I think wedding videography sometimes requires understanding the difference between capturing something and sharing something. Not every meaningful moment needs an audience. Sometimes my job is simply to preserve it. Best Friends, Teammates, and Ordinary Tuesdays For all of the accomplishments discussed throughout Annie and Brandan's wedding, some of the best advice they received that night had nothing to do with accomplishing anything. Enjoy the little moments. The couch debrief after a long workday. A random Tuesday night dinner. A good hug. The thousands of tiny moments that happen between life's milestones. Because those ordinary moments are where a marriage actually gets lived. Annie herself talked about looking to her parents' marriage as an example. They showed her what it meant not only to choose your best friend, but to choose your teammate for life. Someone who challenges you. Someone who has your back. Someone whose presence makes your life better. Her father's advice to Annie and Brandan echoed exactly the same idea. Stay best friends. Remember that when life gets difficult, you're on the same side. And continue to be each other's biggest fan. For two lifelong athletes, it is hard to imagine more appropriate advice. It wished them a home too small to hold all of their friends, a family table built with love and room for everyone, laughter in their days, patience through the difficult moments, and hearts that always find their way home to one another. Not only during life's enormous celebrations. But during the quiet mornings and ordinary days in between. That feels particularly appropriate for these two. Because after all the jokes about sports betting and parlays, the stories about athletic accomplishments, the beautiful church ceremony, nearly 180 guests, live music, grand staircases, formal tables, and a packed dance floor, their wedding came back to something incredibly simple. Two people choosing their teammate. Brandan might spend plenty of time analyzing the odds, but this time he didn't need them. He found Annie. And Annie found someone her family says sees her, supports her, makes her laugh, understands her, and loves her exactly as she deserves to be loved. I'd say they both won this one. A Beautiful Summer Wedding in Rochester, NY There are some wedding days that seem to have a little bit of everything. Beautiful locations, emotional first looks, heartfelt vows, hilarious speeches, incredible golden hour light, and a couple whose personalities shine through every part of their wedding film. Emily and Kendall’s June 27th, 2026 wedding was exactly that. Their wedding day took us to two beautiful Rochester, NY locations, beginning and ending at Irondequoit Country Club with their ceremony taking place nearby at Linehan Chapel at Nazareth University. From finishing touches at the Country Club in the morning to an absolutely gorgeous golden hour portrait session on the golf course later that evening, Irondequoit Country Club created such an elegant backdrop for their wedding film. But as beautiful as the setting was, what made this wedding so much fun to capture was Emily and Kendall themselves. Their story is one filled with friendship, humor, Disneyland trips, an apparently questionable knowledge of auto mechanics, and two people who everyone around them seems to agree simply make sense together. From 290 West Street to Wedding Day Emily and Kendall’s story began years before their wedding day at UMass Amherst. 290 West Street played a pivotal role in these two meeting. Emily lived on one side while several of Kendall’s friends lived on the other. The two had crossed paths before, but according to Emily’s dad, there was one particular cold Massachusetts day that helped bring them together. Emily was talking to her dad on the phone because her car was making a strange noise. When she arrived back at 290 West Street, Kendall came over to see if he could help. As everyone learned later, Kendall is apparently not exactly an auto mechanic. But he was the kind of person who would walk over and try to help anyway. And maybe that tells you more about Kendall than actually knowing how to fix the car ever could. Their first date apparently went pretty well too, at least until Kendall ended the evening by telling Emily, “I wish you the best of luck with your future endeavors.” Not exactly the most romantic closing line. Emily joked during the rehearsal dinner that she felt like she had just been rejected from a job interview. Thankfully, she gave him another chance. Years later, their friends and family gathered in Rochester to witness Emily and Kendall become husband and wife. Getting Ready at Irondequoit Country Club Emily and Kendall both completed their finishing touches at Irondequoit Country Club, which gave us the opportunity to begin telling their wedding story at the same place everyone would return to celebrate later that evening. Located just minutes from downtown Rochester, Irondequoit Country Club sits on 130 acres of beautifully manicured grounds. The rolling landscape and golf course create an incredible amount of variety for wedding portraits and videography throughout the day. The morning of a wedding always carries a completely different energy than the reception that follows. There is excitement, anticipation, a little nervousness, and usually a whole lot happening at once. Those quieter finishing touch moments are some of my favorites to capture because they establish the beginning of the wedding film before everything starts moving incredibly quickly. And before Emily and Kendall headed to their ceremony, there was one very important moment still waiting for them. An Emotional First Look First looks have a way of temporarily slowing down an otherwise incredibly busy wedding day. For Emily and Kendall, their first look at Irondequoit Country Club gave them a chance to see one another and take in the fact that the day they had spent so long planning was finally here. It also gave us the opportunity to take advantage of the Country Club grounds for their bridal portraits and wedding party portraits before heading to the ceremony. As a Rochester wedding videographer, this is one of the things I loved most about filming at Irondequoit Country Club. There is so much beautiful outdoor space available without having to travel between portrait locations. The manicured grounds, mature landscape, and sweeping views of the golf course provide so many different backdrops within one property. And somehow, those views would become even better later in the evening. A Wedding Ceremony at Linehan Chapel at Nazareth University After portraits, everyone made the short trip to Linehan Chapel at Nazareth University for Emily and Kendall’s wedding ceremony. Their ceremony incorporated touches of Jewish tradition while keeping the focus firmly on the promises the two were making to each other. Surrounded by family and friends, Emily and Kendall exchanged rings and promised to stand beside one another and share their lives together. The officiant spoke about marriage as both a profound privilege and a deep responsibility. Marriage means standing together through the joyful moments and the challenging ones while continuing to choose one another every day. That sentiment could not have fit Emily and Kendall’s vows more perfectly. Kendall promised to support Emily’s dreams, make time for Disneyland trips, laugh with her when life is simple, and stand beside her when life becomes difficult. He called Emily his missing puzzle piece, his other half, and his best friend. Emily's vows carried that same sense of partnership. She promised to be Kendall’s teammate through all of life’s twists and turns, to cherish the qualities that make him who he is, and to love him unconditionally. Even, she added, when he attempts to limit her Disneyland visits. One of my favorite lines from the entire day came at the end of Emily’s vows. She promised to listen to Kendall and to try to “be where my feet are.” And on that particular day, that was easy. Her feet were standing directly in front of her soulmate. With their vows exchanged, rings placed, and promises made, Kendall broke the glass and the newlyweds walked back down the aisle together as husband and wife. Two People Who Bring Out the Best in Each Other One of the best parts of wedding videography is getting to know a couple through the people who know them best. And if there was one message repeated throughout Emily and Kendall’s wedding speeches, it was this: They bring out the best in each other. Emily was described as sweet, funny, joyful, and a passionate advocate for others. Her dad spoke about watching her grow from the little girl who constantly made him laugh into a woman he is incredibly proud of. Kendall’s friends painted an equally wonderful, and often hilarious, picture of him. One friend described Kendall as a “cult classic” and “everyone’s favorite friend.” Stories stretched all the way back to middle school, when friendships were apparently forged through failed attempts at art class and trying to sew pajama pants in Home and Careers. Smarter. Intentional. This isn’t a “top 10 lenses” list. This is what’s actually in my bag — what I trust when there are no second takes. If you’re a Sony shooter (A7 IV, FX3, A7S III), and you want to know what lenses are dominating real wedding days right now — let’s get into it. Who This Post Is For Wedding filmmakers ready to upgrade from beginner glass Sony shooters wanting to invest wisely Creatives who are tired of lens swapping chaos Anyone wondering: Do I really need G Master? This is not theory. This is field-tested. Prime vs Zoom in 2026 — My Honest Take Here’s what experience has taught me: Zooms pay your bills. Primes build your brand. Zoom lenses save you during unpredictable ceremony moments. Primes create the cinematic magic that gets you booked again. In 2026, I run a hybrid system: One primary zoom mounted on my main camera body until open floor reception dancing One prime lens after all formal events and open dance floor Ceremony and speeches: (1) telephoto lens for a nice tight shot and (2) my backup zoom lens on another stationary camera. That’s it. Clean. Efficient. Professional. 🥇 1. Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM II The Workhorse That Rarely Leaves My Camera Use For:  Getting ready, ceremony front angles, reception candids, family portraits, dance floor chaos. If I had to shoot an entire wedding with one lens, this would be it. And yes — Reddit agrees. Across r/SonyAlpha and r/WeddingVideography threads, the consensus is consistent: “Stupid sharp wide open.” “Finally light enough to use all day.” “Autofocus sticks like glue.” Sony redesigned this lens from the original GM, shaving weight and dramatically improving sharpness. It’s noticeably lighter than the first generation — which matters when you're filming 8–10 hours straight. I say this with confidence as I have also rented the Sony 24-70 mm GM and the Sony 28-70 f/2 GM . With both lenses, my wrists up to my shoulders were feeling it midway through the day. And that's saying something since I carry around a 30+ lb 2 year old most days. There is a very noticeable difference in weight and balance, and I cannot recommend the 24-70 GM II enough. Why It Dominates in 2026 ✔ Edge-to-edge sharpness at f/2.8 You’re not sacrificing clarity for flexibility. ✔ Reliable autofocus tracking On Sony bodies, eye AF during vows is borderline unfair. ✔ Versatility under pressure 24mm for wide ceremony shots.70mm for tighter emotional reactions. No lens swap needed. Real-World Wedding Truth When timelines fall behind.When the officiant asks you not to move.When you are boxed in by guests with iPhones. This lens saves you. The Only Downsides Expensive investment Still heavier than a prime No built-in OSS (rely on IBIS/gimbal) But here’s the honest coach moment: If weddings are your business, this lens pays for itself. 🥈 2. Sony FE 35mm f/1.4 GM The Cinematic Storytelling Lens Use For:  If time allows, I do like to switch out my zoom during bridal prep, detail shots, couple portraits, and a non-negotiable in any darker lit environment. This isn't always a guarantee, but nice to be able to move between if possible. This year I am thinking about investing in a Spider Camera Holster and carrying it around on my second camera body as a quicker change out. If the 24-70 is my safety net, the 35mm GM is my signature. There’s a reason this lens has near-cult status on Reddit threads.
